Thailand Health Tip

There are pharmacies everywhere in Thailand and if you have a minor health problem a local pharmacist will normally be able to diagnose your symptoms and prescribe some medicine. Many drugs that would require a doctor's prescription elsewhere are sold over the counter in Thailand.

Comments: I found out some time ago that many Singaporeans come to Hat Yai to have nips, tucks, and other cosmetic surgery procedures performed.

Hat Yai clinics have possibly the lowest prices anywhere for plastic surgery.

I have seen lots of positive comments on Singaporeans on Internet forums about Dr Nara's work and prices. They say his results are very natural-looking, and his prices are the lowest available. I didn't see one negative comment. Looking at the information on his web site, he is very well-qualified.

He has an excellent reputation among local Thais, as well as the Singaporeans and Malaysians who visit Hat Yai solely to have a procedure done with him.

I am told that his work is very good and his prices very reasonable.

Appointments are necessary. The clinic opening hours are 10am to 8pm (Monday to Friday), 9am to 4pm (Saturday), and 9am to noon (Sunday).

Procedures available include:

  • Blepharoplasty (upper lid, lower lid)

  • Nose implant
  • Chin implant

Patient Comments:

  • I came all the way from Canada because I heard his service was excellent and prices was below that of Bangkok and elsewhere in Thailand. He is the sweetest and soft spoken doctor I ever met. He understood my needs and made sure I was ok at all times. The procedure was done at the clinic, it was scary at first but for the price am paying I don't require all that fancy stuff hospitals offer. His nurse is always on point and I suggest anyone who wants to see him, walk-in and have a consultation with him first and judge for yourself his quality of service. Comments: This plastic surgery clinic is located very close to Wat Chiaew Chaang, the large unfinished Chinese temple on Suphasarnrangsan Road. The doctor at this clinic works full time at the Bangkok Hat Yai hospital: Dr Chirayut Tolertmongkhol MD (Certified Board of General Surgery; Certified Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery).

The clinic advertises various cosmetic surgery procedures but seems to specialise in hair (as well as beard and moustache) transplants.

The opening hours are 1pm to 8pm (Monday to Friday), 9am to 4pm (Saturday), and 9am to 2pm (Sunday).

Comments: I've heard good reports about this clinic, which is located close to Hat Yai municipality and Hat Yai Witthayalai school.

From Monday to Friday the clinic opens from 08:00 to 14:00. On Saturday it is open from 08:30 to 16:00 and closed on Sunday. It is closed from 11am to noon for lunch every day, and from 9am until noon on Thursdays.

Patient Comments:

  • I go in for skin check ups -- in the tropics -- and take off all my clothes and he pulls out his magnifying glass and starts rattling off latin, ending each term by saying, not cancer. Well worth the 300b every 6 months.

Comments: Dr Tawutchuy has the usual credentials and qualifications that all Thai doctors have. His clinic is not as large or busy as Dr Virat's.

From Monday to Friday the clinic opens from 07:15 to 08:25, 12:00 to 12:50 and 17:00 to 20:00. On Saturday it is open from 09:00 to 16:00 and on Sunday from 09:00 to 12:00.

Comments: This clinic is always packed with patients. The doctor makes his diagnoses very quickly and gets through a lot of patients. Looking at the clinic opening times, I assume he has a full time job elsewhere but I don't know where.

I have visited this place a few times and it has been fine. Some locals have told me that they have a preference for other skin clinics.

Comments: This clinic is located opposite the police station near to where it says 'Shooting Ranges' on the map.

It's a government facility, rather than a private clinic. However, I think they will treat anyone. When I asked some questions I'm sure the lady thought I had a problem myself.

There is a lot of prostitution in Hat Yai. The supply is mainly driven by demand from Malaysian sex tourists. Accordingly, there are a lot of STDs. I once read that Hat Yai has one of the highest HIV rates in Thailand.

I'm not sure when the clinic is open. This place isn't like a regular clinic. There are no business cards and I felt awkward asking too many questions.

If you had a good time with one of Hat Yai's ladies of the night and now have an itch, a rash, or some funny lumps, etc, you could try this place.

Comments: Obstetricians in Hat Yai normally have a small, portable ultrasound scanner with which to observe foetuses. This clinic has a fancy 4D scanner, which cost considerably more.

The fourth dimension is time and you can observe the baby moving in the womb. The detail is also a lot better.

The clinic is located very near to Hat Yai hospital.

From Monday to Friday it is open from 11:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 19:30. On Saturday and Sunday it is open from 09:00 to 12:00.
