Overview of politics in Thailand

I don't like to be disrespectful about any aspect of Thailand but, having followed Thai politics fairly closely for five years or more, it is beyond a joke. Previously, I had tried to write seriously about the subject but decided to remove what I had written because what actually goes on in the political arena is a farce, undeserving of any serious comment.
At one stage I was briefly optimistic that things were getting better but when everything went full circle once again I realised I should have known better.
