Strawberry Club

Description: All goods sold here cost just Bt10 and a lot of things are actually quite good quality. Central Festival is the most expensive retail space in Hat Yai, yet there is still a business model to sell things very cheaply.

Quite a few shops like this have opened in Hat Yai in recent years and I guess it is a sign of the times. I noticed that some of the expensive beauty clinics at Central Festival have now closed, but new shops selling cheap goods have opened. I hear Thais complaining all the time about the economy.

Flagship

Description: Electronic gadgets including drones, vacuum cleaners, air filters, etc. This shop replaced the Sony shop. Some retailers at Central Festival are very successful, but even big names such as Sony decide to leave.

Zoom Camera

Description: Zoom has several branches in Bangkok and in December 2017 I wanted to buy a Sirui tripod from Zoom because it was a very good price. I was about to order on-line when I went to Central Festival to find a branch had opened in Hat Yai. How convenient! I bought my tripod without having to mess around transferring money and ordering on-line.

Boomerang

Description: Previously, Boomerang had a shop on the 4th floor before moving down on to the 3rd floor. The shops sells mainly DVDs.

Sub-Zero (NOW CLOSED)

Description: Many businesses in Central Festival have closed after being unsuccessful, but I was quite surprised to find that this ice skating rink closed some time in 2019.

I don't know the reasons, but rent and maintenance must have been very expensive. A facility like this needs lots of customers, but the admission price was too high for many ordinary Thais who barely have enough money each month for the basics in life.

It's all boarded up now and at the moment I have no clue what will replace it, or whether it will reopen.
