Comments: I looked at the apartments in this building several years ago when it was known as Jutti Apartment. The rooms were grotty and packed full of young kids. This area has a lot of tutoring places and it becomes overrun with high school students during the school holidays.
Since then, however, the building has been completely refurbished and it has gone significantly upmarket. The lifts, passageways, and rooms have all been fitted out to a very high standard.
The rooms on floors two to six are available for long term rental, while the floors above are intended for short, hotel-like stays.
Despite being pleasantly decorated, the rooms are small. The monthly rate is also fairly high for Hat Yai. Consequently, The House doesn't offer great value but it will suit those who value cleanliness over space.
I was told there are lots of rooms vacant, which is an indication of the value for money. In places that offer good value, the rooms get snapped up very quickly.
As a place to live long-term the rooms may not offer enough space, but for short stays it is a decent alternative to the other hotels in town. The House is located fairly close to JB Hotel.

The hotel room rates quoted on this site are walk-in rates, also known as rack rates. These are full price rates with no discounts, and in most cases this is the most expensive way to pay for a hotel room.
Booking your hotel through an on-line travel agent is the easiest and most convenient way to get the cheapest deal available. I recommend Agoda.

Comments: For many years there were no backpacker hostels in Hat Yai, just a few cheap guesthouses for budget travellers. Now, there are probably too many and I'm sure there is much more supply than demand. This one opened in April 2017.
The location is very central. It is located directly opposite Starbucks and Odean department store, and just a two minute walk to Lee Gardens Plaza. There are three air-conditioned rooms, all with bunk beds. Two rooms have 10 beds each (five up, five down) and the third room has four - 24 beds in total. There are two toilet/shower rooms. Everything is new and clean.
One thing that all the new hostels in Hat Yai seem to have in common is that the staff are very friendly and helpful. The Hub Hostel is no exception and the front desk staff I spoke to were very pleasant. A few of the older hotels in Hat Yai have quite rude, surly staff.

Comments: The trend with new hotels in Hat Yai these days is to describe them as 'chic' and refer to them as 'boutique' hotels. This one is located in the Raj Uthit area and it is quite a long way from Lee Gardens Plaza and the central tourist district. There's very little of interest in this area and the nighlife on offer is single-themed.
The hotel has a total of 48 rooms on five floors. The glass lift at the front of the building is quite unusual in Hat Yai and the rooms aren't expensive. There is a small car park for guests just in front of the hotel where you can park your car and keep an eye on it.

Comments: As you can perhaps tell from the photo, the Indra is very close to Lee Gardens Plaza. It is also within staggering distance of the farang expat bars on Thamanoonvithi Road. There is a disco/pub and massage shop.
The hotel is large and conveniently located but it's not the most luxurious and the receptionist was quite hostile. With all the new places that have sprung up in Hat Yai in recent years, I would only stay at somewhere like this in a real emergency.
Guest Comments:
- This is such an old shabby hotel with the television placed on a rack above from the ceiling, the rooms reminded me of a cheap brothel..the bathroom is just in a sorry state and the lobby is warm and cold. You can hear the booming sounds coming from the Brass Monkey Pub at night and the rate justifies the room that you get. I checked out the next morning into the Grand Plaza Hotel. Even the Pink Hotel offers a better deal. Sorry but I have to be honest. (October 2009)
- this hotel old but location good, counter service well(ah noi), air cond very cool. i like it. next trip i will stay indra again, very friendly and helpful. another man also good. etc when you ask anything noi or the man will tell to you. only 550 bath per night.location 5* and service 5* and room 3*. (January 2012)

Comments: In the mid-range category of Hat Yai hotels (Bt400 - Bt800) the quality is quite variable. In fairness to the Inter, I haven't stayed there but my gut reaction tells me it is definitely at the bottom end of the market. It has that smell that I have only ever smelt in Thai hotels like this. If I was looking around for somewhere to stay it would definitely be a case of, "I'll think about it," and I would only go back if the accommodation situation in town was really desperate.
The location is fine for central Hat Yai, and especially for Gim Yong market, but for Bt500 I would either recommend somewhere cheaper like Louise Guest House (which seems to be a lot cleaner) or spend a couple more hundred Baht and go more upmarket. Just a few minutes away along Suphasarnrangsan Road is the Tanaphat Hatyai hotel which is a lot nicer for only Bt50 a night more.
July 2006 Update: My comments above about this place weren't far wrong but the good news is that something is being done about it. The hotel has been closed and completely gutted. There is a serious refurbishment taking place and I am told that it is under new ownership, even though there are still 'For Sale' signs outside.
This isn't just some new carpets and curtains. Several external walls have been removed and the building has been reduced to a shell. For the time being, therefore, the hotel is closed for business. When it reopens I will take a look and add some comments.
Thais normally do a good job with this kind of thing and, as I said above, the location is good. When it opens again it promises to be a decent accommodation option.
April 2007 Update: The building work has been completed and the Inter is now officially dead. I will leave these comments here but what used to be the Inter is now the Golden Crown Grand Hotel - see Golden Crown Grand Hotel on the previous page.

Comments: This is an interesting little place. It is very near to the Regency Hotel in the centre of town - and therefore very convenient - but it is in a location where the crowds of tourists don't usually go.
There are only 11 rooms in total. The 'small rooms' really are broom cupboards and they are the smallest hotel rooms I have seen outside of Singapore (I've never been to Tokyo). There is just about room for a bed but not a lot else. They don't look like rooms where people would stay for very long but I'll come on to that in a moment.
The single rooms have one large double-bed and the twin rooms have two single-beds. The interior design has actually been done very well and some might label In Town as a 'boutique hotel'. If they did, it would be worthy of the label.
Guest Comments:
- I spent two night here as it was a Friday/Saturday and everything else was booked up. The rooms are small, but they are also clean. The location is good as its a short walk to Lee Plaza. The downside of this is that there is no wifi, but there are guys (owner?) in the evening getting drunk and asking if I wanted a women each of the two evenings that I stayed there. I didn't notice any short time activities going on however, and the other guests that I saw were just regular Thai people. The price was in the 350/400 area, I can't remember exactly. (March 2011)

Comments: For many years in Hat Yai the only hostel-type option was the Cathay Guest House, but a few years ago several hostels opened. Now, there are lots of places offering cheap beds in dormitory rooms.
You can stay here for Bt320 per night in a 6 or 8 bed dormitory. If you want some privacy and don't mind paying more, they have family rooms for Bt1,250.

Comments: King's is a very typical Hat Yai mid-range hotel near the station. There's an in-house massage shop (of course) - staffed almost entirely with Burmese girls - and a small restaurant. It's not the Oriental in Bangkok but it's about what you would expect for Bt400 a night in provincial Thailand.
Guest Comments:
- I've stayed here twice before. Room rate was 750 baht for a single. I got room 302. Lots of noise from the road. The a/c worked but never enough, the room was never cool enough for me. Hotel has wifi, with a password, but the signal didn't work well in the room. Finally, cockroaches. I felt one walk over on the bed, and at night I found 10 of them gathered in the bathroom. Over all a disappointing stay. (June 2015)
- My second visit this year (26.7.2012) for a very short stay. Every visit is like going back into a vacation home. I have enjoyed greatly the service provided by King's ancient Massage. You just walk down a stairway and the massage ladies are there to greet you, if you are lazy, give a telephone call as easy as ABC. (July 2012)
- My annual return to King Hotel recently and find the place as nice as before however there is an increase in room-rate to Bt 500. For tourists wanting safety, this is the hotel away from the likely disturbed areas where the big expensive hotels situated. (May 2012)
- This a hotel which you like it or don't. We have used King whenever we are in hatyai for the past 10 years. There is nothing much this hotel can give you. If you like a comfortable, friendly, quiet and good size double bedroom with a small washarea with limited facilities and a budget rate of B400 then you can consider this hotel.
We like this hotel because it has direct phone call to King Massage (another very friendly service within the hotel, you dont have to leave your room to get massage ladies. (March 2011)

Comments: This place looks ancient from the outside. I don't know when it was built but the architectural 'style' is of the classic 60's or 70's concrete block variety. However, it was renovated a few years ago and now looks a lot better.
On my early visits to get information the reception staff were very surly and rude, but it seems to have got better in recent years.
Facilities at the hotel include: Karaoke lounge, barber shop, restaurant, conference rooms, coffee shop, Wi-Fi Internet, and the Aladdin Ancient Massage Shop.

- This place is just a 40 year old Thai hotel. Nothing at all is special or nice here yet nothing is awful either. The wifi was good. My biggest complaint is that smoke from other rooms entered my room via the a/c. I did like the location however and was happy with the service provided by the massage attached to the hotel. (October 2012)

Comments: Very close to both the station and Louise Guest House on busy Thamnoon Vithi Road. It's cheaper than Louise but there is a big difference. Ladda is much more like Cathay than Louise. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Comments: I noticed a new coffee shop near the Hansa JB Hotel and decided to give it a try. I then discovered that behind the coffee shop there was a new hotel - I had no idea from the outside because there was no sign. It opened in late 2015 and it is quite exceptional.
The owner lived in Phuket for many years and speaks good English. Her husband is an architect and designed the hotel. It is very modernist and minimalist with lots of matt black. The interesting design makes a refreshing change from many other Hat Yai hotels, which all appear to have been made to the same basic design.
There are only eight rooms. More rooms could have been added, but this would have interfered with some of the design features, such as a comfortable rest area with natural light streaming in from above. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very comfortable and attractive.
This area of Hat Yai isn't of much of interest to tourists, but the central tourist area isn't far away and the walk to Lee Gardens Plaza only takes about 15-20 minutes. There are lots of tutoring schools in this area and it can therefore be busy in the evenings and at weekends with hundreds of young students milling around. With so many students, the area gets very congested and parking is difficult.
From Sunday to Thursday the room rate is Bt1,199 and on Fridays and Saturdays it is Bt1,345. This doesn't include breakfast. There is a very pleasant coffee shop on the ground floor that offers some cakes, but it doesn't appear to offer any food. However, there are plenty of restaurants nearby where you can get breakfast, such as M Coffee or Shanko's Hive.
I was surprised, and a little shocked, to see that Agoda has only given La Pause a 2.5 star rating. They obviously have their reasons and possibly the low rating is because La Pause has no restaurant and very few guest facilities. However, if you just consider the level of comfort the hotel offers, it should have five stars. It is far better than many of Hat Yai's four star hotels.
Instead of looking at the stars, just look at the 9.2 rating that guests give this hotel. According to the guests who actually stay at hotels, it is the highest rated hotel in Hat Yai.

Booking your hotel through an on-line travel agent is the easiest and most convenient way to get the cheapest deal available. I recommend Agoda.

Comments: Not to be confused with Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel. When I took a look around this place I wondered if there was much point adding further hotels to this page. The reason is that they are all basically the same and cater to the same clientele who all want the same things. For less than Bt1,000 you get an average room in a mid-range hotel that has a bar and a restaurant.
This particular hotel doesn't appear to have an in-house massage parlour, which is quite unusual, but it does have a barber shop which offers nine private hairdressing rooms, "for guests of VIP status," and the Diana Nightclub where you can, "move late into the night with the most popular rhythms of the golden age of sound."

Comments: One of Hat Yai's larger hotels, it is right in the centre of the tourist area and very popular with visiting Malaysians. The rooms are a decent size, but the one I looked at was suffering badly from my pet hate in Thai hotels. The carpet, bed sheets and furniture were covered with cigarette burns.
Apparently there are non-smoking rooms in the hotel but I don't know if these are any better due to the fact people in this part of the world seem to have a total disregard for no-smoking regulations.
There is a good size outdoor swimming pool located high up which is available free to hotel guests and a gym which guests can pay to use. One slightly annoying thing about the hotel is that it is necessary to take multiple lifts to get up and down between ground level and the guest room floors. Security is quite good, requiring room cards to get access to the hotel corridors.
When I returned in November 2015 to check room rates I was given the following information:
- Double or twin room with breakfast for two: Bt1,350
- Junior suite with breakfast for two: Bt1,950
- Superior suite with breakfast for two: Bt2,290
Extra beds are available for Bt500.

Comments: This is a perfectly standard mid-range Hat Yai hotel, but the location is a long way from the town centre. It is located in what is mainly a residential area. I know this area well because I used to rent a house just a couple of hundred yards away from the hotel. The hotel is at the end of Soi 20 and I used to live in Soi 19.
There are a few restaurants nearby and there is Hansa Plaza for evening entertainment, but no shopping or markets. If I was a tourist visiting Hat Yai for the first time I would want to be near Lee Gardens Plaza or Central Festival, not here. If you have your own transport, or if the purpose for your visit to Hat Yai isn't tourism, it's not a problem. It's up to you, of course, but if you are visiting Hat Yai for tourism you should be aware of this.
The hotel blurb mentions its 'convenient location' and also says 'The hotel is a convenient base to explore Hatyai Ice Dome and Central Festival Hat Yai.' This isn't exactly true. You can get to these places, obviously, but it will take a while.
The hotel facilities include a coffee shop on the ground floor.
The hotel has two fixed prices - Bt780, Bt980 - and these are displayed outside. Booking hotels on-line is normally a lot cheaper than paying on arrival because walk-in rates are so high. However, if you can't get a better price than Bt780 on-line, just pay when you arrive.
Breakfast isn't included in the room rate. American breakfast costs Bt100, an Asian rice breakfast costs Bt65, and just coffee costs Bt55.
Finally, a small point regarding pronunciation. Thai doesn't have a 'v' sound and the vowels in the name are long. It is pronounced 'lee-waa-naa' with stress on the final syllable.

Comments: This small guesthouse is quite near to Lee Gardens Plaza and quite nicely decorated - I believe it was refurbished in 2013. The reception staff told me that only the big rooms have a toilet inside. The toilet is outside for the small rooms.
In light of the fact that not all rooms have en-suite facilities, the rates seem a little high.

Comments: Louise Guest House appears to be a notch up from the usual standard of 'Guest House' accommodation. It is very close to the station, which is of critical importance to backpackers, but it is not your typical grotty backpacker type of place. The rooms are quite clean and well maintained. I would imagine the rooms overlooking Thamnoon Vithi Road are quite noisy as this is a very busy road.
Compared to most backpacker guest houses it's an improvement, but it still has that 'guest house' feel to it. This might suit a lot of people who are comfortable in that environment but for just a little extra there are proper hotel rooms in Hat Yai that are a lot more comfortable.
When I first looked at Louise Guest House in late 2003 the rates were Bt300 for fan rooms and Bt400 for A/C. When I checked again in 2015 the rates had risen to Bt400 and Bt600 respectively. I actually enquired at Chinese New Year and was quoted the holiday rate of Bt600 and Bt800. Be aware that if you arrive during a holiday period you may have to pay higher rates than usual.

Comments: The first thing you need to know about this hotel is that it isn't a hotel. You can't rent a room and stay there overnight. From the outside it looks like a typical cheap Chinese hotel, the type that can be found all over Thailand. However, as is the case with many things in Thailand, external appearances can be very deceptive. Nothing in Thailand is ever as it appears on the outside.
I went in and asked for a business card. I was told there weren't any because all the rooms were full. "Ah, so you only have business cards when there are rooms available?" I replied. "Mai mee hong puk, hong dtem." "We don't have any rooms to rent, they are all full." I couldn't quite figure out why a cheap Hat Yai hotel like this was full midweek when there was nothing exciting going on in town.
During the course of this stupid conversation I happened to notice that the doors of the rooms near reception were open and that the scantily clad female residents were sitting outside in the corridor waiting for something (or someone). I started to put two and two together and then asked some more direct questions.
There are 35 rooms and each room has a working girl living there permanently. If you are familiar with the Geylang area of Singapore, which I'm sure many Singaporean visitors to Hat Yai are, it is similar. The girls live and work in the same room.
There are three floors and I was invited to go to meet the girls, which I did. They are from all over Thailand and represent the lower end of the commercial sex worker market. They weren't hideously ugly, but none were that attractive either. They charge Bt500 for a 30 minute visit.
Guest Comments:
- Mandarin hotel is the best when people like me don't like to drink or massage. The cost of any girl is only 400 baths for sex, but in the 4th floor there is a cute young girl she ask me 500 baths I agree even if she asked me 2000, she was so cute and nice that I return the next day. She said she is 23 but she look like 18. The adress is in the corner of prachathipat rd and nipatuthit rd. (June 2017)

Comments: This is quite a large place and it looks a bit like a long-stay apartment building. However, it is only intended for short stays.
The area it is in is quite a long way out of town but it would appear that quite a few Malaysians like this area.
