Comments: I first looked at this hotel in 2004 when I started this website and wanted information about hotels in Hat Yai. The cleanliness really impressed me. I remember the toilets being extremely clean and the staff very polite. There was just one small problem.
There was nothing in the vicinity of the hotel, apart from Hat Yai bus station. It was ideal if you had an early bus to catch in the morning but not very convenient for getting into the downtown area or anything else. The Night Market and Greenway Market weren't far away, but these markets didn't open every day and they only opened in the evening. There was nothing to do around the hotel.
Visitors to Hat Yai always wanted to be as close to Lee Gardens Plaza as possible and the Crystal Hotel was a long way out, therefore, it was difficult to recommend.
However, everything changed some years later when Central Festival, the biggest shopping mall in southern Thailand, opened just a stone's throw from the hotel. Lots of retailers moved from Lee Gardens Plaza to Central Festival, as did the many Thai teenage mall rats. Suddenly, Lee Gardens Plaza became very quiet and the main focus for shopping in Hat Yai moved to Central Festival.
From once being located in a semi-wasteland, the Crystal Hotel now finds itself perfectly located for the best shopping in Hat Yai. I'm not sure if this was achieved by luck or by design, but it must have resulted in a lot more bookings because around the same time the hotel added a huge new wing behind the existing hotel.
Incidentally, Central Festival doesn't just offer shopping. It contains a large multiplex cinema, an ice rink, a children's entertainment area, banks, education facilities, lots of restaurants, and much more. If you are just in Hat Yai for a weekend there is probably enough inside Central Festival to keep you occupied for the duration of your stay.
Also nearby the hotel is the Makro cash-and-carry centre, a large branch of Tesco Lotus and the Prince of Songkhla hospital/university. In addition, the hotel is just a few yards away one of the best Thai food dining experiences in Hat Yai.
From 2004 until 2013 I would only have recommended this hotel if someone had an early bus to catch and wanted a comfortable place near the bus station. Now, however, I am happy to recommend the Crystal because of its proximity to Central Festival.
Another thing about the hotel that changed is the room rates. Rooms used to be well under Bt1,000, but that is no longer the case.
- Deluxe Room: Bt1,590
- Super Deluxe Room: Bt1,790
- Skyline Room: Bt1,990
- Landmark Suite Room: Bt3,200
These rates don't include breakfast, which costs an extra Bt150 per person. However, I am sure that you will be able to get a much better deal on-line.

Comments: A big hotel (around 180 rooms) which is popular with Chinese Malaysians.
There are conference facilities in the hotel so you will also find groups of corporate Thais who are there for meetings. Leisure facilities cater exclusively for the Chinese clientele with a Chinese restaurant, Mandarin coffee shop, massage parlour and lounge for evening entertainment. There is also a snooker club.
When I checked rooms rates in November 2015 I was told that the normal rate was Bt890, but that there was a promotional rate of Bt700 running at the time.

Guest Comments:
- Spent a night here and found the hotel to be good. The hotel isn't new but the room actually looked fine, its like they changed some of the furniture over time, what a great concept. The closest thing to a complaint is that there did not seem to be a control for the a/c in the room, but it was cool and worked fine. 795 baht a night. (October 2012)
- I came to stay at this hotel by mistake as I spoke to the driver of the airport van and mentioned the wrong name (actually I wanted to stay at Kosit Hotel) but he sent me there last, alighted from the van and quickly put in some words to the bellboy. The room was spacious and faces the wonderful "happenings area" in Hat Yai and an electric pot was provided. There is a surau for Muslims to pray opposite this hotel and the bellboy was always inquiring about booking a lady which I politely declined. It was not a problem to seek halal food as Daicha Chicken Restaurant is a walking distance away and the room was clean and the receptionist polite. I would not mind the distance to the town center as it fits my needs and I would be back again, one day. (March 2008)

Comments: I have a house in Hat Yai, therefore, I don't stay in hotels. However, if I did, this would be the sort of the place that I would choose. It's a tastefully designed small building with just 11 rooms and it is located in a quiet Soi away from all the crowds, noise, traffic and tourists.
It's really too small to be described as a hotel and too upmarket to be described as a guest house. On their business cards the owners describe it as a 'Boutique Residence'. That's not a bad description.
There isn't a restaurant, but downstairs you will find 'Our Tearoom', which is a tastefully decorated small tea and coffee shop. All rooms have Wi-Fi and private parking is available.
De Poem Loft isn't the cheapest place to stay in Hat Yai, but if you are looking for somewhere quieter, more intimate, and more upmarket than the plethora of run-of-the-mill tourist class hotels downtown it might suit you.
If you wish to be pampered during your stay in Hat Yai, De Poem Loft is located just a few yards away from the upmarket Sittara Spa.
It is also just a few doors away from The Company Coffee and Bakery, which serves the best pies and cakes in Hat Yai.

Comments: This hotel opened some time in 2016 or 2017. The reception staff told me that it used to be the Oriental Hotel, but despite living in Hat Yai since 2003 I was never aware of the Oriental Hotel.
The location is central and it looks like a very typical Hat Yai hotel for the Malaysian tourist trade.

Comments: The Dusit is an older Hat Yai hotel located on a fairly quiet road. It's cheap, and it's within easy walking distance of Lee Gardens and the central tourist area.
Guest Comments:
- Paid Bt300 for a double (fan). None of the rooms have glass in the windows (the fan ones anyhow) so it was very noisy starting six am. when the cleaning staff put the TV on full blast as they clean each room. Staff were generally rude also. (December 2013)

Comments: The Emperor has definitely seen better days and is now looking quite dilapidated from the outside. This is reflected in the room rates. What will happen some time in the future is that it will close for a complete refurbishment before reopening and charging double the current room rates (or more).
Competition among hotels is stiff in Hat Yai with lots of supply and - as a result of the insurgency problems in the south and a declining economy worldwide - not much demand. In its current state, the only way the Emperor can get guests in is by offering very cheap room rates but, even so, there are better deals to be had locally.
The area it is in is well-known for 'Karaoke' bars. The hotel has its own Karaoke lounges and there is a disco attached - Disco Palace - which I'm not sure is open still or not.
July 2015 Update: This hotel is now temporarily closed. The big refurbishment that I have been predicting would happen for several years is now underway. In Singapore such a building would be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. Thais are always looking at ways to save money. They prefer to keep the shells of old buildings and carry out a refurbishment rather than build from scratch again.
I'm not sure when the work will be completed. There will be pressure on the contractors to finish the job so that the owner can start earning money again, but it's a large building and will take a lot of work.
When it's finished it will look quite good, but I predict that room rates will be over Bt1,000.

Comments: The hotel brochure says that the Florida is located in the heart of Hat Yai. This isn't exactly true (depending on your opinion as to where the heart of Hat Yai is) but it isn't a huge distance from Lee Gardens Plaza, which is where I consider the tourist centre of Hat Yai to be. It's a distance I am quite happy walking but others may consider the distance too far.
The rooms are a good size, especially the deluxe ones, and the views aren't bad from the higher floors.
The whitewashed exterior of the hotel with palm trees planted outside is pleasant and the atmosphere inside is relaxed and (for Hat Yai) quite wholesome.
There is a cafe and restaurant and also an in-house massage shop - Cleopatra Ancient Massage.

Guest Comments:
- 650 baht for a room with no breakfast and no wifi, and this was on a Sunday when everyone was leaving the city. On Monday morning I asked for a discount and was denied. The room was OK, nothing special but it was overpriced for being nothing special, I would not stay here again. (September 2011)
- I wanted to check out this hotel as the walk-in rate was advertised as 550 bht per night and that I need a room before my noon flight to Bangkok. I paid for the room and was told that there is no free wifi but there is a rate which I find too expensive. The room were pleasant, clean and comfortable but the minus factor has to be the poorly light bathroom and the absence of the water faucet beside the toilet as I do not use toilet paper after I have done my daily business!!! This is the main factor in not coming back for another visit. I hope that the management do realize this factor when you look at what a hotel's bathroom MUST have. I also did not check out Cleopatra massage or The One night club in this hotel. Was a bit tired, again. (November 2010)

Comments: The old Hat Yai Palace Hotel was acquired by new owners, refurbished, and - some time late in 2016 - it reopened as the Friendlytel Hotel.
The original hotel was certainly looking tatty and needed a makeover. It now looks a lot better and the room rate has only gone up a little - from Bt800 to Bt850. However, the impression I got when I looked at the Hat Yai Palace was that the room rate was a little expensive.
The hotel is still rated with two stars, but the Agoda guest rating has increased slightly.
The address is the same, obviously, and the telephone numbers have also remained unchanged.

Comments: This hotel is located very near to - and owned by the same people - as the Genting Hotel. It is just behind the Genting Hotel and the two hotels are only separated by a small road.
Their website claims that the hotel is located in downtown Hat Yai, but it will take about 20 minutes to walk to the Lee Gardens Plaza area - longer if you walk slowly.
The hotel looks fine and at the time of writing (June 2013) it is brand new. A reader asked if there are smoking rooms. There aren't. However, the Genting hotel next door allows smoking in the rooms. Nothing makes a hotel more welcoming for the weary traveller than the smell of stale tobacco everywhere.
The standard rooms come with one double bed or twin single beds. Two people can stay in a standard room, whereas four people can stay in a suite. There is no breakfast included.

Comments: Not to be confused with the Garden Home Hotel. This is a long-term rental apartment building.
I've always considered this apartment building to be one of the better long-term accommodation options in town and at one time was considering living there.
It's set back a little way from the road and you don't get quite as much traffic noise as you do at some other places. The security is good with non-residents unable to get into the building.
The room rate doesn't include a TV or fridge but these items can be rented for Bt300 each per month.

Comments: A fairly typical middle-range Hat Yai hotel. Facilities include the 'Sometime' Pub & Restaurant, Kiss Boutique Karaoke, Kiss Music Lounge, Jen Jen Ancient Massage, and a snooker club.
Kiss Music Lounge is not what you might think. As you enter, you walk into a room full of very attractive Thai girls wearing evening dresses who are available all night or for a short time. They are very easy on the eye, and priced accordingly. These aren't your rough and ready Bt500 hookers.
I ventured into Jen Jen Ancient Massage on one occasion. There was one woman working there and it quickly became apparent why the word 'Ancient' is used in the name of the establishment. The word described her perfectly. I made my excuses and left fairly hastily.
A few years ago a farang was hospitalised after falling out of a window here. I don't know if he was drunk or just trying to avoid paying his bill. Maybe both, or perhaps he was practising for the world-renowned 'Pattaya Death Leap' which is a favourite pastime among farang expats in Thailand? Whatever he was doing, it's generally not a good idea to leave hotels via a window.
In response to a concerned guest from Malaysia who was planning to stay at this hotel with his family, what goes on here between the working girls and single male guests is not all that obvious to regular guests.
It is no secret that the sex for sale in Hat Yai is a major draw for many Malaysian tourists - not to mention those from Singapore and elsewhere. It goes on pretty much everywhere but it is kept hidden just below the surface. If you're looking for it, you will find it. If not, you may not even notice what is going on.

- The hotel is situated in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to hatyai center, around 10-15 mins walk to Lee Garden Plaza or 15-20 baht by tuk tuk. The hotel room that we got was a standard room. Regular decoration, nothing special. The room was a little old. Free breakfast was provided (egg, toast, ham and hot-dog) + coffee. Overall our stay was good consider the price is half of what Lee Garden Plaza Hotel cost! (October 2010)
- The stay at Garden Home Hotel was so-so, no good or bad experience. Indeed, the counter staffs don't like to smile but they do answer to my enquiries though. There was no door-bells for the rooms. I stayed in the Superior room, 745baht/night, at the point of advancing booking in March, I was told that 2 ABF will be included, but nothing was mentioned when I check-in the hotel and I didn't bother to ask too. There was free WIFI. In fact I booked a Superior Room with single bed and it was confirmed, but when I check-in, I was told that only double bed room is available. Haha, therefore I used one bed for slacking and another one for sleeping. The hotel wasn't as 'messy' n 'havoc' as what people think. I don't feel any uneasy whenever I am walking in and out of the hotel lobby. The walking distance from hotel to the night market was okay for me as well. (June 2011)

Comments: A little way out from the centre of town, this is one of Hat Yai's lowest priced hotels. It's cheaper than some 'budget' guest houses. When I first looked, the room rate was only Bt390.
It underwent a bit of a makeover in 2009 or 2010 in which the visible areas of the hotel were refurbished but I'm not sure if the refurbishment extended to the guest rooms. It has the usual hotel facilities, including Wi-Fi Internet access.
There's a gym on the ground floor that appears to be quite popular. A session of unlimited duration costs just Bt25, and the gym is open to everyone. I wondered whether it might be free to hotel guests but I was told it wasn't.
It's possible to walk into the town centre from the hotel but it is quite a long walk. There are lots of tuk-tuks and motorbike taxis on busy Suphasarnrangsan Road, which is just a few yards from the hotel. There are quite a few restaurants nearby, including Snow White which is directly opposite.

- Stayed there last year, going back there next week. Affordable, clean. Has a very cold airconditioning system, hot shower, fridge. Really all you would ever need from a mid budget hotel. It is now at 500Thbht but still a bargain. New fridge, new plasma flat screen TV, new furnishings... worth the stay. It is ok if it is a little out of town, in fact it is a good thing. At least you can escape from the hustle and bustle of doowntown hatyai for some r&r... my choice when in Hatyai. (November 2014)

Comments: This little place is reminiscent of a UK bed-and-breakfast establishment (without the breakfast). The owners live in the same building and in effect you are staying in someone's house. It's more intimate than staying at a hotel, but this kind of arrangement won't be to everyone's taste.
There are six guest rooms. Four standard rooms have a small double bed and can accommodate two people (Bt599 per night). One room has bunk beds and can also accommodate two people (Bt450 per night). The remaining room has a single bed and can accommodate one person (Bt399 per night).
All rooms have A/C, a fridge, TV, a hot shower, free drinking water, coffee making facilities, and Wi-Fi access. As I mentioned above, no breakfast is provided.
The owner, an architect by profession, and his wife are very pleasant and they seem to be the type of people who make guests very welcome. The building is quite small and very narrow, but it is pleasantly decorated and there are some nice features, such as the fish pond at the front of the house.
The location is very good. The road that the building is situated in is fairly quiet and just a few yards away from Taworn Woraaraam Chinese Buddhist temple. However, it is just a stone's throw from Supasarnrangsan Road where there are lots of food vendors and restaurants, and you can walk to Lee Gardens Plaza comfortably in about 10 minutes.

Comments: The original Get Guesthouse was just that. It was a normal house that had been turned into a guesthouse.
This new place is completely different. It has been purpose built and it is much more like a hotel than a guesthouse. Accordingly, as you can probably imagine, the room rates are quite a lot more compared to the original guesthouse.
The feedback I have seen indicates that the owners are very focused on service and there is a personal touch, which is often missing at large hotels.
However, the top room rate of Bt1,300 puts the new Get Guesthouse into direct competition with many large, tourist-class hotels in Hat Yai. Many of those hotels have better facilities than Get, so it is really up to you.
Is it more important to have the facilities of a large hotel or the personal touch of a small hotel? Potential guests should also bear in mind that there is no restaurant and breakfast offered at Get Guesthouse. If I was paying over Bt1,000 a night for a hotel in provincial Thailand I would definitely expect a fairly decent breakfast.
