Comments: This hotel is located just behind Big C Extra, which was formerly Carrefour, on Phetkasem Road. It is next door to (and owned by the same people as) PS Resort.
Apart from Big C Extra, there isn't a lot in this area to interest tourists, but there are a lot of sawng-thaews on Phetkasem Road, which is just a few minutes walk away. These are modified pickup trucks with two rows of seats in the back, commonly used as passenger vehicles in Thailand.
By boarding the correct sawng-thaew you can go to the downtown area, to the airport, to the municipal park, to the bus station, or to Central Festival. The fare to the airport is Bt20, but to get to everywhere else is just Bt10.
The hotel looks fine and has 75 rooms. Normal rooms are just Bt590, which is quite cheap for Hat Yai these days, and there are larger rooms for Bt1,000. Breakfast is included.

The hotel room rates quoted on this site are walk-in rates, also known as rack rates. These are full price rates with no discounts, and in most cases this is the most expensive way to pay for a hotel room.
Booking your hotel through an on-line travel agent is the easiest and most convenient way to get the cheapest deal available. I recommend Agoda.

Comments: Thais use certain English words to describe certain things in Thailand, however, the Thai meaning isn't the same as the English meaning. For example, buildings with rooms for rent by the month are often called 'Mansions' despite being very 'un-mansion' like.
The word 'Resort' is used in two ways. Firstly, if a hotel has some grounds and a swimming pool it is sometimes called a resort. Much more commonly, the little love motels with rooms to rent by the hour are nearly always called 'Resorts'. There are lots of little 'Resort' operations like this in Hat Yai.
Discretion is quite important and many of these places have curtains to conceal customers' cars after they have parked. The rooms are small because most guests only stay for a few hours, and because of the nature of what goes on I have seen rooms with circular beds and mirrors on the ceilings.
PS Resort is larger than most resort operations and it has 106 rooms. The location is just behind Big C Extra, which was formerly Carrefour. Unusually, this resort also offers rooms for rent by the day. However, be aware that if you stay there overnight a lot of other guests may only be staying for a few hours.
The location is quiet, overlooking a canal, and Big C Extra on busy Phetkasem Road is just a short walk away. Lots of buses, sawng-thaews, tuk-tuks and minivans go along this road and so it is easy to get to other places.
Resorts don't tend to have many facilities, and that is also the case with PS Resort. There is no restaurant, and of course no laundry or minimart or anything.
The daily rates are listed above. The three hourly rate is Bt250 or Bt300, depending on the room, and you can continue your stay for Bt100 per hour.
Rooms have A/C, Wi-Fi, and cable TV.

Comments: I've never stayed at this hotel but I have attempted to use its massage shop a couple of times ... and then walked straight out. If the service in the massage shop is anything to go by, I don't have very high hopes for the hotel service.
However, it's cheap and in a very central location.

Comments: When the dilapidated New World Hotel was closed, it was replaced by the Tune Hotel in 2011. Later, in 2014, there was some kind of management change and the Tune Hotel was renamed the Red Planet Hotel.
The Tune Hotel pricing policy was quite unusual for a hotel and much more like a budget airline. You got the basics and had to pay extra for everything else. For example:
- Towels - Bt120
- A/C - Bt140 for 12 hours or Bt230 for 24 hours
- WiFi - Bt50 for 12 hours or Bt80 for 24 hours
- Cable TV - Bt120
There is no in-house massage shop, as such, but Thai Odyssey massage (which is independently run) is located on the hotel premises. This is a very relaxing and comfortable massage shop, if slightly more expensive than most other places.
If you're on a budget, there are lots of cheaper massage shops nearby.

Comments: The Regency Hotel is one of three large hotels (along with Lee Gardens Plaza and the Centara) that dominate the central tourist area of Hat Yai. It has probably the nicest lobby area of any hotel in Hat Yai (pictured) and the rooms in the new wing are very pleasant. The rooms contain personal safes which is a really welcome feature. The old wing is looking a bit past its best these days and is probably due for a bit of a makeover.
On the fifth floor is a decent size swimming pool, which is free and exclusively for the use of guests staying at the hotel. Some other hotels allow outsiders to use the hotel facilities for a charge. There is also a well-equipped gym, also for guests only, but it isn't free and costs Bt50 to use per session.
If you are driving from Malaysia, Singapore or elsewhere in Thailand the hotel has underground parking and there are also car parking spaces at the front of the hotel and on a piece of land adjacent to the hotel.
There is a pleasant restaurant where breakfast is served and the walk to Lee Gardens Plaza or Central Department takes a matter of seconds. In this area there are lots of small restaurants and massage shops, but be aware that many retailers have moved from the downtown area (especially from Lee Gardens Plaza) to Central Festival in recent years.
If you wish to go to Central Festival there are several ways you can do it. Sawng-thaews (pickup trucks with rows of seats in the back) can take you there for Bt10 per person, but you will need a little local knowledge to use them. Any tuk-tuk driver will be happy to take you, but the driver will probably ask for Bt200 or more.
There are also some free shuttle services that go from various hotels in the downtown area to Central Festival. The advantage, obviously, is that they are free, however, they only depart at certain times and the departure times may not be convenient for you. The hotel receptionist will be able to provide departure times and other information about the free shuttle services.
There are a variety of room rates and these rates were valid in June 2016:
Twin/Double standard room (old wing): Bt1,020
Twin/Double deluxe room (old wing): Bt1,398
Superior room (old wing): Bt1,200
Junior suite (old wing): Bt2,160
Family suite (old wing): Bt3,540
Deluxe luxury room (new wing): Bt1,740
Executive luxury room (new wing): Bt2,220
Executive suite (new wing): Bt1,908
Imperial suite (new wing): Bt3,480

Comments: This hotel used to be the plain old River Inn Hotel but after a change of ownership and a new coat of paint it is now the River Grand Suite Hotel. When I returned to check the room rates in November 2015 I was just given the rate for standard rooms, however, there are somes suites if you want to pay more for some additional space and comfort.
It overlooks a canal (klong in Thai), and not a river as the name of the hotel may suggest. The location is fairly quiet, yet it is still convenient for Hat Yai's many and varied attractions. I therefore like the location of this hotel. There's a restaurant, but the massage shop that used to exist when it was the River Inn doesn't seem to be there any more.
Considering how much room rates have been increased in some other Hat Yai hotels in recent years, this hotel is now good value.

Comments: This is a small hostel and guesthouse located near Lee Gardens Plaza. It's a few doors away from the Chateau. It was opened late in 2017 or early in 2018.
There are four standard rooms for Bt750 per night and four family rooms for Bt950 per night. They also have a dormitory, which they refer to as a 'bogie room'. This has 16 beds and the rate is Bt320 per night.
The business card says that there is parking behind, but I'm not sure how many spaces.

Comments: A nice, clean-looking hotel centrally located close to Lee Gardens. The whole place appears to have been completely refurbished around 2004/2005, and then again a few years later. There are over 100 double and twin rooms which come with A/C, satellite TV, hot water in the bathrooms, a kettle, hairdryer, refrigerator and mini-bar.
The hotel has 24 hour security. Sakol is pronounced 'Saa-gon' in Thai. It means international/Western.

Guest Comments:
- Very small room, I was astounded that the sofa and the bed is just near the door with a tiny writing table and a small bathroom finishing the look. There is no view..the channels on the television are good though and there an electric kettle provided in each room. I just find the room too small, almost tiny for the rate that I have to pay and even though early in the morning, in the lobby, the hotels provides a free drink stand with biscuits and 3-in-1 tea/coffee but I was quite irritated with the frosty receptionists and front desk who are actually older ladies. I did not like the way they spoke to me and I would not be here again. (April 2009)

Comments: The Sakura and Sakura Grand View hotels are owned by the same people (they are also located just across the street from each other), but they are separate hotels.
At the Sakura you will find a karaoke lounge, and downstairs at the Dara Cafe you can watch a free 'Coyote and Sexy Show'. Well, entrance is free but once inside you will be hounded to death for tips. I went there once. Not only did the performers and wait staff want tips, but there was also an attendant in the toilet whose constant fussing over me indicated that he wanted a tip as well. "No, it's OK thanks, I can hold it myself."
To ease your aches and pains, and maybe more, you can call in at the Sakura massage shop.
The rate of Bt830 is for a room without breakfast. Alternatively you can pay a higher rate which includes breakfast for two people.

Comments: As you may have guessed from the name, the Sakura budget hotel is run by the same group who run the Sakura and Sakura Grand View hotels in Hat Yai. Whereas those hotels are quite central, this one is a little out of town, close to Rajyindee hospital.
As I write, a number of hostels and budget hotels have opened in Hat Yai recently targeting budget travellers. Most don't seem that busy, but this one is. There are 150 rooms and when I went to look the hotel was full. Not only were there a lot of Malaysian guests, but also Thai ones.
Being located away from central Hat Yai has both advantages and disadvantages. One plus point is that there is a large car park, which is big enough for over 200 cars. Also, if you want to eat some of the best cakes and pastries in Hat Yai, this hotel is within walking distance of The Company. On the negative side, to get to shops and restaurants you have to travel a little further.

Update: On 1st April 2019 the Sakura Grand View Hotel was taken over by new owners and renamed.
See: Yannaty Hotel
Comments: Located close to the Hat Yai Central Hotel and opposite the Sakura Hotel, the Sakura Grand View has quite a fancy lobby and boasts 'panoramic views of the city'. The hotel brochure also claims that the building is an 'innovatively architectural design' (sic). I don't think Sir Norman Foster was involved with the design; it just looks like a typical Thai hotel to me.
There is a large 'ancient' massage facility inside the hotel (Sayuri massage) with lots of young massage girls from north and northeast Thailand, Karaoke girls, snooker, a restaurant, and a bar.
I checked room rates again in November 2015 and was told Bt1,300 for a superior room or Bt2,700 for an executive suite. Extra beds are available for a charge.
A Karaoke place with lots of pretty girls sitting outside every evening is located right next door. Originally it was called Violin, then The Star, and now it is Forte. It features Karaoke and Coyote girls. Thailand must be the only country in the world where Coyote is a recognised job description.

- 2nd trip staying at this hotel room #1509, complained about air-con too cold; their technicians couldn't do anything about it, instead they told me to "off/on" manually. After talking to them i felt so stupid. Suggest you take this into consideration when booking a hotel room. (September 2011)
- Of the many hotels i have stayed in hatyai since 1980s, this hotel is better than most and the price is affordable. (July 2011)
- Very popular with Malaysian tourists as it offers a comfortable and quiet stay with all the rooms sound-proofed against the busy main street below. The free wi fi in the room and also hotel lobby is a definite plus factor and the view from my room on the 11th floor is just wonderful. The massage facility and the people working there are made up of mostly fair-skinned lasses from the North and I must admit that some are quite stunning! The room is also fitted with a safe deposit box which can hold a 14" laptop for those who DO bring one. Rooms are always well cleaned and I find that this is indeed one of the better hotels away from the central part of Hat Yai. (October 2010)
- Clean, spacious mostly cater for Malaysian especially during the Malaysia school or public holidays. Price are high compare to Bangkok for services provided at the same star of hotel. Most important to point to visitor that the receptionist are the most unfriendly to guest that visit Hatyai for different purpose, etc. perhaps due to those visitors for cheap leisure... . Exclusively to services except common reply in Thailand "a moment please" even for the simple direct answer and my last visit was April, 2011 and waited for a room for more than 5 hours. WHY, they refused to advise that the main water pipe in the hotel bursted. Finally, checked-in to the room and had waited for another 3 -4 hours before the water runs clean.
Worst, reached the hotel at 0900m hours after travelled from Seam Reap, crossed border to Arayanprathet to Bangkok waited for 9 hours at the Sai Tai Mai Bus Terminal for departure Bangkok at 1930 hours to reach Hatyai next day 0730 hours and reached Grand Sakura View Hotel at 0800 hours. Next trip August 01, 2011 to Golden Triangle and doing the same via bus which is one of the bus system in Thailand that I frequently enjoy heading from Chiang Rai-Chiang Mai-Krabi-Hatyai-Peng and all the way back to Kampong in Singapre. All for sight-seeing, local food and beer with reasonable and comfortable h-o-t-e-l. (Yearly 2 to 3 times at 2-4 nights each visit)

Comments: This place opened in February 2015 and it's another centrally located budget accommodation option in Hat Yai. It's located on Thamanoonvithi Road close to several other budget accommodation options, such as Cathay Guest House, Louise Guest House and Ladda Guest House.
There are 17 rooms on six floors, but don't worry if you are on a high room because there is a lift. Each room has A/C, a warm water shower and a fridge. Considering how prices have risen in Hat Yai in recent years, and comparing this to other budget accommodation, Bt500 seems quite reasonable. At some other places a budget of Bt500 will only get you a room with a fan.
When I went to look there was no Wi-Fi, but I think this is coming soon. Sandee was so new when I looked that they still hadn't finished decorating and there was still a guy there painting the walls.
Sandee is next door to a well known Muslim restaurant. The sign outside the restaurant says 'Maliam', but the Thai script actually says 'Mariam'. The location is on the corner of Thamanoonvithi and Niphat Uthit 2 roads. It is very close to both the railway station and Lee Gardens.
Taking into account the central location, the amenities (including A/C and warm water), and the low room rate, this latest budget accommodation offering in Hat Yai would seem to offer very good value for money.

Comments: This medium size hotel is a little way from the centre of town, however, the location is quite convenient. There are lots of places to eat nearby and it doesn't take long to walk into town.
The room prices are cheap and the hotel offers free Wi-Fi.
I used to stay in an apartment very close to SC Heritage and each evening a selection of painted ladies would arrive by tuk-tuk and disappear into the hotel.
According to a few online forums I visited years ago, the girls can be rented but they are quite expensive (by Thai standards). I have no clue whether this business is still in operation.

Guest Comments:
- The rate is now 500 for standard and 550 for deluxe. I had a deluxe which I found to be good. The room is somewhat dated and in OK repair but functions perfectly with good a/c and TV. Deluxe room comes with a balcony perfect for doing clothes.
No signs of painted women at the hotel, not even signs of other guests, pleasantly quiet.
Conclusion, a decent hotel, in a good area at a fair prtice , will stay again. (June 2014)
