Comments: This is a typical Hat Yai hotel geared towards the weekly Malaysian tourist trade. It's near the centre of town, not too expensive and has what Malaysians want when they come to Hat Yai, including a snooker hall.
It is a large hotel with 250 rooms. Facilities include the 'Broadway Karaoke Lounge' and 'Tum Rub Thai' massage shop where you can get your tummy rubbed or, in the words of the hotel, "... is a fantastic place for relax and release your tensions ... each room is equipped with air-conditioner and color TV."
The massage rooms are very pleasant - decorated in a Japanese style. The massage girls vary. Some just do the kneading action thing on each limb, but a few really know what they are doing. Here is a tip: One of the massage girls called Tik used to work at Garabunning Spa and she is a great masseuse. If you can get her you won't go wrong. For photos of Tik being massaged, she was my model for the photos of Preuksa Spa.

Comments: It's strange how just a few years ago there were no hostels in Hat Yai and now there are several. This one opened early in 2017 and it is quite large. There are 11 rooms (88 beds in total) and four communal bathrooms - one on each floor. In one room, that has just four beds, there is an ensuite bathroom. Try to get in this room if you can. Every room has individual lockers for each guest and you will be given a locker key if you stay here. Maybe the other hostels do too, but I can't remember seeing any lockers at the other places.
This hostel has a laundry room and there is also an area where you can dry clothes. Most of the staff seem to be Muslim and I assume the owner is Muslim too. In addition to the normal facilities you will also find a prayer room. When I went to check out the other hostels in Hat Yai I don't remember seeing any prayer rooms. This hostel may therefore be more suitable than others for Muslim guests, but people of other religions are still welcome, of course.
On the ground floor there is free coffee and drinking water, and you can also buy cheap breakfast dishes. As is the case with all the other hostels in Hat Yai, the staff I met and spoke with were very helpful and friendly.
The location is fine, being quite central and a short walk away from the train station and Lee Gardens Plaza.

Comments: The Hatyai Holiday Hotel opened some time in 2008. There are 90 well furnished rooms. The rooms are standard Thai hotel rooms; what more is there to say? A bed, a TV, a fridge, and a bathroom. One thing to say is that the rooms are quite small compared to other hotels.
The location is strange for a hotel aimed at tourists. It is located in an area near the fresh market and Pakistani mosque, which is quite an undeveloped part of Hat Yai. For that reason, I thought the Bt800 room rate was a litle expensive. Had the hotel been located close to Lee Gardens Plaza, Bt800 would have been reasonable, but for this location I would have expected a rate somewhere between Bt500 and Bt600.
The hotel has its own Karaoke lounge, restaurant and massage shop. The rooms in the massage shop are some of the most pleasant I have seen in Hat Yai. They are very tastefully decorated and make for a relaxing environment.
Massage prices are Bt300 for two hours of Thai massage, or Bt700 for a two hour oil massage. Whether or not the service from the massage girls matches the quality of the rooms remains to be seen. Had I wanted a massage when I visited, I would have been out of luck because there were no masseuses available. The wait would have been two-and-a-half hours. I hope this isn't normal because it isn't really acceptable.
September 2012 Update: The room rate is now Bt700. This confirms my suspicions that when the hotel first opened the Bt800 rate was too high.
When I enquired previously about massage there were no masseuses available and they told me that there would be a two-and-a-half hour wait. When I visited recently the massage shop was closed with a big chain securing the door. This was at noon, despite the sign on the door saying the massage shop opened at 9am.
If the hotel in-house massage service is important to you, I would not suggest staying at this hotel. There are plenty of hotels in Hat Yai that offer far more reliable massage services.

Comments: The Hatyai Merridian is a mid-class Hat Yai hotel with 80 rooms. The area in which it is located is busy at night with lots of food vendors on the streets where you can get a taste of real Thai street life.
Nearby are also some other elements of Thai nightlife including Karaoke bars and a few cheap aap op nuat (bath and sex) places. The hotel is only a few yards from the K & K massage shop. The hotel brochure claims the hotel is located in the heart of Hat Yai city centre, but it is probably closer to Diana department store than it is to Lee Gardens Plaza.
Still, Hat Yai is a small town and it is easy to get to anywhere no matter where you are staying.
Facilities include the Krua Thong restaurant and an ancient massage parlour where you can: "Relax and release your tension. You will be treated by our experienced masseuses in a separated room furnished with traditional look. The services are available at 2nd floor 24 hours daily."
The hotel brochure says that free Wi-Fi Internet access is provided. It also says that special rates will be given for group packages and tour agencies.
The hotel slogan is, "Your's a Happy... Come True Here." You will need to run this phrase through a Thaiglish-English translator to work out the meaning.

Comments: The Hat Yai Palace is NOW CLOSED. This hotel was acquired by new owners who then carried out a refurbishment. At the end of 2016 it reopened under a different name. It is now called the Friendlytel Hotel.
See: Friendlytel Hotel, Hat Yai for details.
The following are my comments for the old Hat Yai Palace Hotel, which no longer exists.
The Hat Yai Palace is located just next door to the Asia Grand Hotel. It is also close to the Daiichi, Garden Home and Color hotels.
It looks about the same standard as its neighbour - the Hat Yai Asia - and I was expecting about the same room rate of Bt500 per night. I was quite shocked to hear that the rate was Bt850.
The receptionist told me that the rooms were refurbished three months ago (around April 2012) and I guess this is why the room rates are high. I took a look at a room and wasn't that impressed. I think it is a bit overpriced.
There is a restaurant on the ground floor. There used to be a massage shop on the second floor (I know because I went there a few times), but it no longer exists.
However, the reception staff will happily make arrangements for a masseuse to come to your room.

Comments: Have you noticed how hotels always use a lot of artistic licence? If a room has an armchair, it is a suite; if the rooms are so small there isn't enough room to swing a cat, it is a 'boutique' hotel; and if there is a swimming pool the hotel becomes a resort.
With 1,034 rooms, this is a large - and modern - hotel. It's a fair way out of town, which is both good and bad. Good because it is quiet, but not all that convenient for shopping and eating out in the evening. Of course, there is public transport but sawng-thaews don't run all that late and tuk-tuks can be problematic at night.
Lots of people stay there to hang out around the pool but, personally speaking, I would rather go to Songkhla if I had a sudden desire to hang out around a swimming pool.
The hotel is located near the Hansa ladyboy cabaret. You will find some restaurants and bars nearby.

Comments: Located opposite the Florida Hotel, this is another nondescript Hat Yai mid-class hotel that has been built to cater for the needs of the Malaysian tourist trade.
It's fairly large with 152 rooms and there is an in-house massage shop. The walk to Lee Gardens Plaza is quite a long way, but you can always hop on a tuk-yuk.

Guest Comments:
- I had wanted to check out this hotel as I was staying at the Sakura Grand View Hotel a few times prior to this place. I did stay at the Florida Hotel about 2 weeks earlier but was not happy with the must-pay-if-you-want-Wifi signal and that hotel has no shower hose beside the sitting toilet, a bad factor. The Hat Yai Rama offers free WiFi,there is a Muslim prayer direction in every room, the bed is a bit hard though and it is located away from Central Hat Yai. It is a cheap 20 bht tuksai ride to Oliver Massage at Raj Uthit Road (perhaps the best nued-pan-boran place in Hat Yai), walking distance of about 15 minutes to some selected Muslim stalls and a slow relaxed longer walk to the Plaza area..Rooms are comfortable, the channels are modern with enough to keep me happy if i need to watch some tv and on the whole, I would stay here again as I do not mind the distance. (January 2011)

Comments: The Hatyai Signature hotel was opened on 17 August 2016. It is in an unusual location, but it is a very attractive hotel. I have visited many hotels in Hat Yai and most are adequate for the purpose, but quite ordinary. However, a few have exceeded my expectations and actually impressed me. This is one of them.
It's not that big and it is divided into two separate buildings. The building at the front, where the reception desk is located, has 30 rooms. The building at the back has 22 rooms. There is a small car park at the back and some car parking spaces in front of the hotel.
Five types of room are available:
- Best Friend (Twin Beds) 31m2 - Bt1,850
- Unique (Double Bed) 25m2 - Bt1,550
- Executive (Double Bed King Size) 34m2 - Bt1,850
- Luxury (Duplex Two Storey Room) 50m2 - Bt3,600
- Family (Triple Bed) 35m2 - Bt2,550
The rooms are very well decorated with good quality fittings and the bathrooms are also very attractive. I was most impressed with the Luxury (Duplex Two Storey) rooms. These have two floors and I haven't seen anything like this elsewhere in Hat Yai.
On the first floor is a bathroom and lounge area with a TV. A flight of steps leads to the second floor and the bedroom area. The rooms are like luxury apartments and also offer good views. There are three of this type of room.
The hotel is set back from the road a little and between the hotel and road is a canal. As you look out from the hotel you look over the canal and you can see Hat Yai town and Kor Hong mountains in the distance.
Facilities include a very pleasant restaurant (Larn Ta Chu), coffee bar, swimming pool and a fitness room with exercise equipment. The fitness room is free for guests, but people not staying at the hotel can use it for Bt50 per session or Bt900 per month.
Naturally, the hotel has A/C, flat screen TVs, warm water showers and Wi-Fi. All hotels have to have these things these days.
Now, back to that 'unusual' location. The hotel is located on one of the roads going out from Hat Yai that lead to the airport. It is very near to Hat Yai University. The reception staff told me that some guests like it because of its proximity to the airport.
If you have a car, no problem. However, if you don't have a car and you arrive at the hotel by taxi you might find yourself a little stranded. The walk into town is too far, there isn't any public transport, and there isn't anything of interest nearby.
The hotel advertises a free city bus service, which would be convenient, but when I spoke to the staff they were still in the process of setting up this service. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the airport.
Another reminder that the rates I show here are walk-in rates and that you can normally get a much better deal on-line.

Comments: I believe there is a business connection between this place and Hat Yai Backpackers Hostel. As you can tell from the names, both of these places offer cheap accommodation aimed at backpackers who want to pay as little as they can on their travels through Southeast Asia.
The reception area at Hat Yai Youth Hostel is light, clean and airy and I chatted to a very pleasant, well-spoken girl who was working on reception. The location is great. It's very close to the centre of town, but it is in a quiet road that doesn't get a lot of through traffic.
There are three dormitory rooms.
- Mixed dormitory with eight beds and no air-conditioning - Bt270
- Female only dormitory with six beds and no air-conditioning - Bt300
- Mixed dormitory with six beds and air-conditioning - Bt350
There are only two bathrooms. If all the dorms are full and someone takes up permanent residence in one of the bathrooms after eating some bad som-tum, this could be a problem. There was also another small problem.
I arrived quite early in the morning to get this information and everything was locked up. Had this been the case if I had just arrived after travelling for 24 hours I wouldn't have been very impressed. There was a sign on the door telling me to send an e-mail to ask someone to open the door, but that wasn't exactly a convenient solution.
The reception desk is open from 07:00 to 21:00. After guests check in they are given a key and can let themselves in and out. However, if your arrival time is outside of these hours it would be a good idea to arrange for someone to be there to let you in, otherwise you will be stranded on the pavement outside.
The room rates I was given are walk-in rates. The receptionist told me that most people book on-line through Agoda and this is what she recommended. See Agoda link below.

Comments: The sign outside says 'Hotel', but the business card just says 'Apartment'. The business card description is probably more accurate.
This place is extremely basic, BUT it is right in the middle of the central tourist district and it is only Bt500 per night. The location is just behind the Regency Hotel and it is a two minute walk to Lee Gardens Plaza. It's also close to Birth Mansion, and these two places are quite similar. They both offer very cheap accommodation near to Lee Gardens Plaza.
Hat Yai hotels are still cheap compared to most cities around the world, but prices are gradually rising. As new hotels open and old hotels are refurbished, the room rates for these places are getting close to Bt2,000.
This place isn't the Ritz (and its owners won't try to say it is). There's no restaurant, no swimming pool, no gym, no massage shop ... nothing. It won't be for everyone, however, if you just want a cheap bed for the night and want to be close to Lee Gardens Plaza this is a good option.

The hotel looks fine and there is a minimart on the ground floor, but there is very little going on outside. Apart from the Bangkok Hat Yai hospital, there isn't really much in this area at all.

The hotel room rates quoted on this site are walk-in rates, also known as rack rates. These are full price rates with no discounts, and in most cases this is the most expensive way to pay for a hotel room.
Booking your hotel through an on-line travel agent is the easiest and most convenient way to get the cheapest deal available. I recommend Agoda.

Comments: For many years the only accommodation options in Hat Yai for backpackers were places such as Cathay Guest House, Louise Guest House and Ladda Guest House. There were no cheap hostels with dormitory rooms for budget travellers.
That situation has now changed. I'm not sure why - maybe it's the faltering global economy - but at least three backpacker-type hostels have opened recently as I write in April 2015.
First there was Hatyai Backpackers Hostel, then Hat Yai Youth Hostel, and now The Hive Hostel.
The location of The Hive is good, being right down town within easy walking distance of all the attractions in the central tourist district.
When I took a look it had only just opened and there had still not been any customers. Renovations were ongoing and one of the dorms (on the 4th floor) had still not been finished.
The 2nd floor has a large mixed gender dormitory with 24 beds. The 3rd floor has smaller private dorms with four beds and six beds. One of these smaller dorms is female only. Everything is brand new, clean, and the dorms have air-conditioning.
As I write, a promotional rate is being offered but it will not last indefinitely - Bt299 for a bed on the 2nd floor and Bt349 for a bed on the 3rd floor.

Comments: Hop Inn is a hotel chain run by the Erawan group, which operates several budget hotels in Thailand. The emphasis is on cleanliness, convenience, comfort and safety. The Hop Inn Hat Yai hotel, with 79 rooms, was opened on 6th October 2016. It looks to be good value for money.
The location is opposite the Prince of Songkla university hospital on Kanchanavanich Road. This road is spelt Kanchanawanit on the map. Close by is a large branch of Tesco Lotus, the bus station, night market and Greenway market. If you don't mind walking a little way, you can also walk to Central Festival from here.
There is just one room type and you can choose between a double bed or two single beds. The rooms have air-conditioning (of course), as well as fridges, 32" TVs and warm water showers. There is also free Wi-Fi, as there is in every hotel these days. In addition, the rooms have desks if you need to do some work. The car park is quite a good size.
The room rate varies depending on demand. If you go at a quiet time when there are few guests it will be cheaper. If you go at the weekend or during a holiday/festival period the rate will be more expensive. However, the room will be the same regardless of how much you pay.
In other provinces Hop Inn room rates start at Bt550, however, Hat Yai is more expensive than many other locations in Thailand and the starting room rate is Bt650.
When I took a look in December 2016 it looked like a comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price and, of course, everything was still almost brand new. It was also fully booked, so obviously it is already proving popular with visitors to Hat Yai.
Book early if you want to stay here.

Comments: This is Hat Yai's second branch of the popular Hop Inn budget chain of hotels. The rooms are clean, functional, brightly coloured and cheap. It's a formula that works well. The walk-in rate is Bt750, but Agoda is selling rooms for less than Bt500.
I took the photo when it was still under construction, but the hotel was completed in November 2019. They call it 'downtown' and although it is closer to the downtown area than the first Hop Inn hotel, it's not really downtown.
There are 79 rooms in total. The rate is the same, but some have one double bed and some have two single beds.
One nice feature is a fairly large car park, which will appeal to people who drive up from Malaysia or Singapore. Many hotels in the downtown area have limited or no car parking spaces. If you drive to Hat Yai in your own car this would be a good choice.
It is next door to the Metta animal hospital. Be aware that the location on Google maps isn't quite correct. It's close, but on the other side of the road junction.
