Comments: This is a specialist heart clinic. It is located very close to Hat Yai hospital, where I guess Dr Umnaat works during normal hours.

From Monday to Friday the clinic is open from 07:30 to 08:30 and from 17:00 to 20:00. On Saturday and Sunday it is open from 09:00 to 12:00.

During festivals it is open from 07:30 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 20:00.

Comments: I don't mean this in a malicious way, but I don't know why there are so few clinics in Thailand that deal with mental health. I have read that approximately 1-in-5 Thais have some form of mental illness.

Given that statistic, there should be lots of mental health clinics but there aren't. There are beauty clinics everywhere and this is possibly indicative of the Thai value system. Image always comes above substance and in the Thai value system a person's external appearance is far more important than any mental health issues.

In the last 50 years Thailand has developed far quicker than Western countries and many people have had problems keeping up with such rapid development. This causes mental health issues and with many people these issues don't get addressed.

Addiction is also a problem with many younger Thais. They get addicted to drugs, alcohol and playing on-line games.

Anyway, this is one of the few mental health clinics that does exist in Hat Yai. It is run by Dr Pichet Udomrat.

Opening times are as follows:

Monday to Friday: 11:30 - 12:45 and 17:00 - 19:00
Saturday: 09:00 - 19:00
Sunday: 09:00 - 12:00

Comments: Dr Chutbpawit takes care of women during all stages of pregnancy, including finally delivering the baby. His main job is at the Prince of Songkla Nagarin hospital.

He took care of my wife during her first pregnancy and delivered our daughter.

From Monday to Friday the clinic opens from 17:00 to 20:00. On Saturday it is open from 09:00 to 14:00 and on Sunday from 09:00 to 12:00.

From Monday to Friday and public holidays the clinic opens from 09:30 to 19:00. On Saturday it is open from 09:00 to 16:00 and on Sunday from 09:00 to 12:00.

Comments: I believe that this bone doctor, who used to work at the Prince of Songkla hospital, is now retired from full-time work, but he still runs a private clinic.

Comments: Most private clinics in Hat Yai are run by doctors who have full time jobs in public or private hospitals. Therefore, the clinics only open in the evenings and at weekends when the doctors aren't at work.

The problem with this arrangement is that many clinics are closed during the daytime. A few, including this one, are open during the daytime. However, unlike many private clinics in Hat Yai, it is closed in the evening.

My wife took our son to this clinic when he had a cold. She said that the doctor seemed fine but the bill was Bt2,700, which was a lot more than she had anticipated.

From Monday to Friday the clinic is open from 08:00 to 17:00. On Saturday it is open from 08:00 to 15:00 and on Sunday it is open from 08:00 to 13:00.

Comments: Dr Sasiwaraa runs a private clinic called Clinic Ruk Dek. She works at the Prince of Songkla university hospital and sits on the American Board of Pediatrics.

From Sunday to Friday the clinic is open from 17:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday it is open from 08:30 to 12:00.

Comments: Dr Wutichai Sinkitcharoenchai's clinic used to be located on Thamnoonvithee Road opposite Robinson Department store. However, he relocated and the clinic is now on Klong Rien 1 Road opposite Terrace View Residence, and quite close to the Bangkok Hat Yai Hospital.

From Monday to Friday the clinic is open from 17:00 to 20:00. On Saturdays and public holidays it is open from 09:00 to 12:00, but closed on Sundays. The clinic used to be open on Sunday evenings, but that is no longer the case.

From Monday to Friday Dr Wutichai works at the Rajyindee private hospital from 09:00 to 12:00.

Compared to other children's clinics it is slightly more expensive, but Dr Wutichai graduated from Thailand's prestigious Chulalongkorn University with top honours and he was recommended to me by a pediatric nurse who used to work at Rajyindee hospital.

All of the pediatric doctors that have treated my children in Hat Yai have been fine, but Dr Wutichai's reputation suggests that he is maybe better than most.
