Respiratory - Dr Narongwit

Comments: Dr Narongwit treats lung diseases, respiratory ailments and allergy problems. He quickly got my asthma under control after I hadn't had a lot of success with other doctors. He's only young, but knows his stuff.

As is the case with many doctors in Hat Yai, he has a full time job at a public hospital (Hat Yai hospital), but works part-time at a private hospital (Rajyindee), and also has his own clinic.

You can see him at any of these places, but each has its pros and cons. Thai public hospitals are very busy places and it can be a problem if you don't speak or read Thai.

You will be seen a lot quicker at private hospitals and there will be English speaking staff to help you, but these are the most expensive places to see a doctor in Thailand.

Visiting a doctor at his private clinic is convenient and cheap, but you have to go at specific times because he only works there temporarily.

This clinic is open in the evening between 17:00 and 20:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It is closed all day on Thursday.

Dr Narongwit is in attendance on Tuesday and Wednesday, while a female doctor (Dr Sirikate) is in attendance on Monday and Friday.

The clinic is also open on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 09:00 and 12:00. Dr Narongwit is there on Saturday and Dr Sirikate is there on Sunday.

Dr Narongwit is an identical twin. His identical twin brother is Dr Narongsak, who is a pediatric doctor at Hat Yai hospital and runs the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Dr Narongsak treated my son in NICU after he was born with pneumonia and probably saved his life. Not only do the two brothers look alike, but they also sound alike.

Meanwhile, Dr Narongwit has given me back a normal life after ny asthma started to get quite severe. They are a fine pair of brothers.

Comments: I've heard good reports about this clinic, which is located close to Hat Yai municipality and Hat Yai Witthayalai school.

From Monday to Friday the clinic opens from 08:00 to 14:00. On Saturday it is open from 08:30 to 16:00 and closed on Sunday. It is closed from 11am to noon for lunch every day, and from 9am until noon on Thursdays.

Patient Comments:

I go in for skin check ups -- in the tropics -- and take off all my clothes and he pulls out his magnifying glass and starts rattling off latin, ending each term by saying, not cancer. Well worth the 300b every 6 months.

Comments: Dr Tawutchuy has the usual credentials and qualifications that all Thai doctors have. His clinic is not as large or busy as Dr Virat's.

From Monday to Friday the clinic opens from 07:15 to 08:25, 12:00 to 12:50 and 17:00 to 20:00. On Saturday it is open from 09:00 to 16:00 and on Sunday from 09:00 to 12:00.

Comments: This clinic is always packed with patients. The doctor makes his diagnoses very quickly and gets through a lot of patients. Looking at the clinic opening times, I assume he has a full time job elsewhere but I don't know where.

I have visited this place a few times and it has been fine. Some locals have told me that they have a preference for other skin clinics.

Comments: This clinic is run by Dr Jitti. He must have a full-time job elsewhere because the clinic is only open part-time out of hours. This is normal for private clinics in Hat Yai.

In addition to sexually transmitted diseases, the doctor here will treat any other problem. The clinic offers protection against and treatment of STDs, they can do blood tests and administer vaccines.

From Monday to Friday it is open from 17:00 to 19:30. On Saturdays and Sundays it is open from 09:00 to 12:00.

It is located close to the Siam Nakarin department store.

Comments: This clinic is located opposite the police station near to where it says 'Shooting Ranges' on the map.

It's a government facility, rather than a private clinic. However, I think they will treat anyone. When I asked some questions I'm sure the lady thought I had a problem myself.

There is a lot of prostitution in Hat Yai. The supply is mainly driven by demand from Malaysian sex tourists. Accordingly, there are a lot of STDs. I once read that Hat Yai has one of the highest HIV rates in Thailand.

I'm not sure when the clinic is open. This place isn't like a regular clinic. There are no business cards and I felt awkward asking too many questions.

If you had a good time with one of Hat Yai's ladies of the night and now have an itch, a rash, or some funny lumps, etc, you could try this place.

Comments: Obstetricians in Hat Yai normally have a small, portable ultrasound scanner with which to observe foetuses. This clinic has a fancy 4D scanner, which cost considerably more.

The fourth dimension is time and you can observe the baby moving in the womb. The detail is also a lot better.

The clinic is located very near to Hat Yai hospital.

From Monday to Friday it is open from 11:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 19:30. On Saturday and Sunday it is open from 09:00 to 12:00.
